Jesse Jewhurst Hilder (1881-1916) artist, born on 23 July 1881 in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. When his family moved to Brisbane, he attended Brisbane Grammar School on a three-year scholarship. He studied under Sydney Long and Julian Ashton at the Sydney Art School. He died of pulmonary tuberculosis and was at the time of his death in 1916, one of the most brilliant of the Australian water colour painters, and his works are still sought for by collectors around the world. He is represented in most of the Art Galleries and private collections in Australia, and many private collections in other countries.
